The kingdom of Asan has had many rulers over the years and some of the royal items of magic have been lost in battle or in quest. The kings of Asan constantly battle with bugbear tribes and clans of orcs and goblins that raid the countryside. They have also been known to war with the elvish kingdom of Ilthdruir to the north and the Baron of Umberon to the south who both value the rich mineral and metal wealth of the kingdom of Asan.
Below Asan is its most closely guarded secret and the source of its great wealth. Caverns below the city of Asan contain portals to the elemental planes of fire and earth. Elementals travel through the caverns from one plane to another and inadvertantly leave gems and precious metals behind in their wake. The "Mines" of Asan are guarde day and night by the royal guards bound to the House of Asan. The slaves who work the mines do so naked so they cannot steal anything for themselves.
The kingdom is threatened from within by greedy nobles who constantly seek to supplant the king and take the city's riches for themselves. All of the noble houses fight a clandestine war within the various cities of the kingdom to undo each other and gain more power for themselves. Merchants vie with one another to someday buy a title and join the nobillity. The common folk work hard to someday buy thier way into the Merchant's Guild. The Thieve's Guild preys on everyone and constantly seek information to sell to one house or another in their constant clandestine wars.
